Company Background
In the 1980's Robert Currey sold his chain of contemporary furniture stores and began working on concepts and products for the garden as well as for the home. Inspired by his own garden-oriented retail stores and their need for interesting merchandise, he began to build the organization that evolved into today's Currey & Company.
The product line changed and evolved over the years including classic wrought iron and cast aluminum furniture, whimsical Americana, a plethora of birdhouses, rustic willow and hickory furniture, amusing gardening accessories, and, increasingly, lighting products. |
 |
Lamps and chandeliers were first created from wrought iron; gradually the line was expanded to include other materials, but the products always incorporated an understanding of historic design and a lot of imagination. By the mid-1990's lighting had become the most important part of the business although garden accessories and occasional furniture remain in the collection.
Currey & Company's table and floor lamps come in a variety of materials and styles. Inspirations for these designs often come from the past as familiar shapes and materials are translated into items appropriate for today's consumers. Wrought iron, brass, silver, wood and porcelain as well as a variety of ethnic materials are used to create these designs.

Finishing Touches
Embellished with decorative elements, Currey's chandeliers, sconces, and table lamps are finished in a distinctive manner, reflecting true attention to both workmanship and aesthetic. The distinctiveness of the hand-finishing process that is used on these lighting products lends an air of depth and richness that cannot be achieved by less time-consuming finishing methods.
In many cases, the finishing touch may be the application of crystal pendants and beads. Skilled hands apply these decorative elements with great precision so that every piece leaves the factory with its crystal pinned securely in place. When new designs are created, the type of crystal and its placement are throughtly contemplated so these important elements are not casually added afterthoughts, but rather, an integral part of the original design work. |
Finishes
Currey & Company takes pride in the hand-crafted nature of their finishes. Many of them are hand-applied in a process that requires several steps, with some minor variations from item to item. The enhances the character and individuality of each piece.
Currey & Company now includes a plant in the Philippines and a multi-cultural work force in Atlanta that creates, assembles, finishes, packs and ships product; a dedicated management team; and an office force that works hard to tend to details of accounting, order processing and customer service.

Frequently Asked Questions about Currey and Company Lighting
What about a canopy (ceiling plate) for a Currey & Company chandelier?
All Currey & Company chandeliers come with a canopy and chain that is finished to match the chandelier.
Can I get extra chain for a Currey & Company chandelier?
Extra chain is available for chandeliers and comes packaged in 3' or 8' lengths. These lengths match the standard length of the chain provided with the chandelier.
How do I know the correct size of a chandelier for a dining table?
A general guideline is to choose a chandelier that has a diameter equal to one-half the width of the table. The general appearance of the chandelier must be taken into account, too; that is, if it is a light airy piece it may be slightly larger than the standard.
How low should a chandelier be hung over a dining table?
Generally there should be 30" between the bottom of the chandelier and the top of the table in a room with an 8' ceiling. If the ceiling is higher, the distance between the bottom of the fixture and the table should increase slightly. Remember that the chandelier should provide light for the table, but not be so low as to block anyone's line of vision when they are sitting at the table.
What guidelines should I follow in choosing a chandelier for a foyer or other room?
Add the room dimensions together. If the room is 14' by 16', add 14 + 16. The answer is 30, which means that your chandelier should be approximately 30" in diameter. Again, remember that other factors such as the height of the ceiling may influence the proper size.
Can I hard wire a Currey & Company wall sconce?
Yes, you may! Each of our sconces is shipped with a 40" cord cover and an 8' lamp cord. This makes it possible to use in a situation where you can't or don't want to wire it into a wall. However, this cord and cord cover are detachable so that the sconce may be converted to a hard-wired fixture.
How high should I hang a wall sconce?
Generally, sconces should be placed on a wall 60" from the floor
