A Profound Feat of Engineering and Design
Meyda Tiffany, also recently designed and engineered, with state-of-the-art technology and green energy efficiency, one of the world’s largest chandelier’s for a local performing arts theater in upsate New York. The Meyda Chandelier illuminates with 328 LEDs made by Philips Luxeon. You’ve probably witnessed these brilliant and energy lights if you ever watched the New Year’s Eve Ball-Drop in Times Square. To put the energy efficiency of the LEDs used in this chandelier into perspective, it uses 1,120 total watts (equivalent of energy used for one drip coffeemaker), instead of conventional incandescent bulbs requiring 7,435 watts (energy equivalent of 17 refrigerators)! In addition to its energy efficiency the bulb’s lamplife is 15 years or more compared to a lamplife of two years or so for an incandescent bulb. Here’s a video chronicling Meyda Tiffany’s design and manufacturing of this spectacular chandelier. |
