Framburg

Framburg Lighting Framburg Lighting is one of the most historic companies in the lighting industry and one of a select handful of companies still manufacturing lighting in the United States. One of their distinguishing characteristics is the immense variety of styles they incorporate in their portfolio of chandeliers, pendants, and sconces. Their manufacturing capabilities allow them to produce fixtures of superior quality, thematic consistency, and design integrity. Each Framburg fixture shows refinements in metal forming, finishing, design, and engineering techniques that have been perfected through the generations. Not long ago designs were rendered painstakingly by hand. Today, Framburg designs are modeled on a computer and are the product of countless iterations that allow them to achieve superior form, proportion and scale.

Framburg Lighting can be summarized as falling into the following design categories: Vintage, Retro, Art Deco and Mission-Style Lighting. Even those groups fail to capture the innovation of Framburg, which can be seen in a cross-over piece such as the Giselle Pendant, seen here. This incredible pendant uses a variety of techniques, starting with a Murano glass shade that creates the illusion of spiraling toward the center vortex with a theme is continued with the glass finial. The shade is suspended by metal cables trimmed with golden teak crystal, which give it both a modernistic appearance fused with classic elegance. This is the true heart of Framburg innovation.

Another one of our favorites is the Framburg Evolution Chandelier, which to our minds is the perfect synthesis of Arts & Crafts and Deco design, two of our favorites to begin with. With the sweeping and graceful arch that defines it as part of the Deco movement, to the Ebony Finish, a sophisticated influence, this chandelier is a striking piece of art that will illuminate your greeting room, dining room, or foyer. The mica shades hearken back to a Mission-influence that makes this Framburg chandelier one of our all-time favorite pieces on the floor.

This fusion of design worlds can also be clearly appreciated in the Framburg Waterfall Sconce, which to our eye looks like a synthesis of turn-of-the-century grandeur, again mingling in some Deco and Gothic influences. With its striking Roman Bronze Finish, this wall sconce completes the look utilizing hanging bobeches and bodies inlaid with jewelry crystal. The exposed sockets take two 60-watt Candelabra bulbs, providing plenty of illumination. Only Framburg, one of the country's longest-producing manufacturers of fine lighting, could come up with such an appealing combination of styles, finishes, and utilitarianism in lighting.

From formal to casual, gothic to contemporary, and rustic to refined, Framburg handcrafts one of the broadest product lines. The Syzygy and Vienna evidence this breath of design. Only a company like Framburg could transition so easily between two such diametrically opposed styles.
