Downrods connect the fan blades and motor to the coupling unit that attaches to the ceiling. Downrods can be very short, from 3, up to 72 for the very highest ceilings. For optimum air circulation, it is most efficient to have the blades 8 to 9 feet above the floor. For ceilings that are higher, see the charts with suggested down rod lengths.
