Wesley Allen Beds and Daybeds: Technical Information
Wesley Allen Technical Specifications

Technical Specifications on Wesley Allen Iron Beds. Wesley Allen beds are fine, hand-crafted heirlooms made here in America.
Construction
Wesley Allen builds all of their beds using what they call "Unibody construction", a term that aptly describes the process which conveys strength and solidity to each one of their beds. Starting with heavy gauge iron, each horizontal, vertical, or scrolled component of the bed is meticulously welded together paying close attention to detail. Then, each decorative casting is hand-poured directly over the welded iron to create an exceptionally solid one-piece bed. (these decorative iron castings are sometimes called "chills" to antique reproduction bed enthusiasts). This process produces a bed that is the perfect balance of strength and beauty. It is a time-consuming process, but the end result is certainly worth the extra consideration given during the manufacturing process. The green, purple, and aqua circles in the diagram below highlight areas where the Unibody Construction is particularly important. These are finials and decorative castings that are directly poured over the iron to create exceptional solidity.

Millenium Frame System
Wesley Allen's "Millenium Frame System" uses high-gauge steel ton ensure durability, strength, and maximum support for the mattress and box spring. Three cross rails with welded "V" brackets create five additional points of contact for each bed. Side rails are engineered specifically to add greater strength in the corners, where bed stress is most likely. This can be seen in the red circle on the above diagram, and is also highlighted below. When your mattress and box spring are on this frame, you will find that it is quite immovable! The rail system is shipped in a foam pack carton to arrive entirely undamaged.

Bed Configurations
Wesley Allen iron beds can have up to ten configurations for some styles, such as canopy, wrap, open-toe, and half-canopy (or “bonnet” beds). For most buyers, the question is one of how much room they have to work with and how prominent a space they want their bed to occupy. Usually most people know if they want a canopy vs. a non-canopy. However, Wesley Allen has many wonderful options within each of those groupings, as shown below with the Interlude Bed, one of their most popular designs:

Powder paint specifically prepared for your order is electrostatically applied by expert colorists to meet or exceed the highest standards. The bed is then baked in specialty ovens where extremely high temperatures produce a PowerBond finish of superior durability and richness. It may be hard to choose a finish, given that Wesley Allen has over 32 finishes in both Custom and Standard. The Standard finishes are quite beautiful and certainly work well with any bed you choose. If you are uncertain about which finish to choose, we always recommend you go with a more uniform, less complex finish like a Standard Finish. The Custom finishes require more work, which is why they are more expensive.... Each finish is hand-applied, layer upon layer, to create a rich-looking iron creation. Below are some of the many looks conveyed by the Premium Finishes:

Wesley Allen's Daybeds and Sleepers
A wrought iron daybed is perfect for a child's room or guest room, the multiple options on wrought iron daybeds that can double as couches include: raised headboards & footboards; springs attached to the frame so all you need is a mattress; pop up or roll out trundles with springs for sleepovers and guests. The trundle quickly slides out from beneath the bed and locks into position, giving you the convenience of an extra bed when space is at a premium (like those holidays!). The sleeper bed lowers and slips back away in seconds. The image below shows a daybed with a hi-rise trundle unit.

A few points to consider:
1. Our iron day beds from Wesley Allen use a slatted frame which rests approximately 16" from the floor with a 15" clearance, room enough for most trundle units.
2. Wesley Allen pricing is designated by "daybed", which is the back and side components, or as "sleeper", which includes the slatted frame. Neither the daybed nor the sleeper includes the trundle unit. You may buy the trundle unit separately on each detailed product page.
3. The hi-rise sleeper, or trundle unit, accommodates a second 39" x 75" twin mattress. The sleeper bed, when raised up, is not designed to be perfectly level with the twin bed and we do not recommend that you use the two mattresses as one single unit. This is a manufacturer recommendation.
4. FINISH DISCLAIMER: Due to differences in dye lots, climate, the uniqueness of the artisan's application, and lighting conditions, actual finishes may vary in appearance from any examples shown.
Sleeper Beds
Twin and Full-size Sleeper Beds from Wesley Allen are available with an optional trundle unit. The trundle quickly slides out from beneath the bed and locks into position, giving you the convenience of an extra bed when space is at a premium (like those holidays!). The sleeper bed lowers and slips back away in seconds. Please remember that the hi-rise trundle unit is an additional option for sleeper beds.

A few points to consider:
1. Beds are drilled with two sets of holes for flexible mounting options. The lower set accomodates a standard mattress and box spring, the upper set accommodates the use of a mattress without a box spring, using the Universal Slatted Frame.
2. The Universal Slatted Frame rests 16" from the floor with a 15" clearance, room enough for most trundle and pop-up units.
3. Pricing listed in this section includes the slatted frame but does not include the trundle unit. You may buy the trundle unit separately on each detailed product page.
4. The Hi-Rise trundle unit, accomodates a second 39" x 75" twin mattress. There is no Full-size trundle unit available at this time. The sleeper bed, when raised up, is not designed to be perfectly level with the twin bed and we do not recommend that you use the two mattresses as one single unit.
