Lane Furniture's story began in 1912, when John Lane purchased a box plant in Altavista, Virginia. Though he had little manufacturing experience, John's son Ed started a chest factory in the new plant. The plant grew to be more successful than they could have ever imagined, and they eventually expanded from chests to occasional tables, case-goods, and accent pieces. In 1972, Lane purchased an up-and-coming reclining chair company in Tupelo, Mississippi. Under Ed Lane's guidance, the company grew very quickly over the next 20 years, eventually becoming a major force in the upholstered-furniture industry. Lane is a member of the Heritage Home Group along with other well respected brands: Broyhill, Drexel Heritage, Henredon, Hickory Chair, La Barge, Lane Venture, Maitland-Smith, Pearson, and Thomasville. Lane now specializes in seating—reclining seating in particular. Many of their recliners are the most popular products on all of Carolina Rustica. Lane is known for crafting sturdy, long-lasting furniture that is well respected across the industry. Their upholstery is designed to stand up to daily wear–and–tear, ranging from microfiber to leather. We rate their Design, Construction and Materials all as 'Better', the second highest rating we give!
